Antenatal education
You and your family’s optimal health and wellness is achieved when you understand the potential demands of birth and labour and are able to create solutions tailored specifically to your particular circumstances.
My role is to help you have a satisfying birth as defined by you. The more we explore this, the better I will be able to fulfil this role. I will ask about your knowledge of the birth process and can provide information and education as needed. I will want to know your own personal ways of coping with pain, fatigue, and challenging situations. We will use this to understand your internal resources that can help you with your birthing experience.
We will explore how you and your birth partner foresee working together and the roles of others who may be attending the birth. We may discuss your fears and concerns about the birth and any preferences regarding natural and medicinal comfort measures. I will give you the tools to create an effective birth preferences outline that you feel comfortable with.
In addition, we will discuss things to consider to support your family’s needs during the first few weeks after birth.
You will have:
- A minimum of 2 sessions that cover the physiology of birth from the comfort of your own home.
- We will discuss the physiology of the birth process so that you feel confident in your options.
- I will provide you support with understanding your birth options and writing your birth preferences.
- We will discuss birth positions, massage techniques and the importance of your breath.
- If you have any fears or mental block about pregnancy, birth or the postnatal period we will work together on minimising them so that you’re excited and ready for the journey ahead.
- We will conclude with discussions around preparation for the postnatal period.
